AMBERLEY WATERFRONT

THE DETAILS:

Client: Redrow Homes PLC

Contractor: Bouygues UK

Location: Little Venice, London

Duration: 52 weeks

Value: £695k

THE BRIEF:

We were commissioned to design, fabricate and install architectural metalwork, bolt-on balconies and secondary fabricated items for a two-building project at Amberley Waterfront.

The first, a six-story structure containing 47 luxury residential units with balconies overlooking the Grand Union Canal, the second, a new primary school, ARK Atwood Primary Academy, and adult education facility for Westminster Adult Education Service.

Secondary fabricated items included:

  • Bolt on balconies
  • Glass roof balustrades
  • Timber screens
  • Feature external staircase
  • Internal and external balustrades
  • Security fencing
  • Automated gates

THE CHALLENGE:

The timeframe for completion of this project was tight, and access restricted as the development backed onto the canal making it difficult to offload and park. It was therefore crucial we worked collaboratively with all other parties – project manager, tower crane and other trades – to ensure smooth, timely and safe delivery.

THE SOLUTION:

The design and installation of our bespoke products met the design brief, which included attending weekly site coordination meetings to ensure safe delivery and installation of:

  • 34 bolt on type balconies, clad with an Alucobond bolted to cast in Schoeck brackets. These balconies we’re built off site, delivered on a flatbed lorry and carefully craned into position over the top of the building with the use of the on-site tower crane. Balconies were lowered into position and bolted from the scaffold.
  • One feature staircase, painted yellow and fabricated off site in three sections. Again, this was lowered into position with the aid of the tower crane.
  • The fabrication, and installation of 90 internal vertical bar balustrades and handrails.
  • The erection of 65 glass balustrades and 18 hardwood timber screens to the roof terraces.
  • Supply and installation of bespoke gates and access controlled pedestrian gates to the front entrance.
